The Freespace Music Restoration Project
Looking for Derelict SCP? Go here, grab what you need and have fun!
Latest News:
Lots of personal issues have held up this project for a while. Personal, real-life issues,
making the transition into a completely new computer system, technical snags
and such. I’m back on the
project, and have asked for the help of CP5670 to bring us the music for
Freespace 2. I’m working on Freespace
1 material at the moment. Hang in there
everyone, we’re making progress!
Also,
mixdowns are in the works, which are to serve as the “Music
Archive” for all works involved, FS1/ST/FS2 soon. FLAC will be used for the audio format, which
appears to be the best for what we’re trying to achieve here.

Background information:
The FSMRP is a project that started with a simple idea: Make the music in
Freespace 1/2 better. Enhance it. It has evolved into a joint effort by
Dan Wentz at Volition, Hard Light members CP5670, Goober5000 and myself to
bring the community newly remastered music to be experienced in Freespace 1/2.
Nearly ten years have passed since this fabulous game has been
released. After the release of Freespace 2's source code to the public,
the Freespace community has improved nearly every aspect of the two
games, except for one crucial element: music. It had been rumored
that the music for Freespace 1 was lost forever, and that any hope of
having high quality music for Freespace 1 would be fulfilled by a
talented composer who could re-record the files as best as they could,
by ear.
I had an idea. Just ask the developers! Surprisingly, I got
a reply from Dan. After searching for most of the summer of 2006,
we've found a lot of music masters that will be compressed down with a
much higher quality encoder than what was used in the retail game.
After all is said and done, I plan to make a VP file which will
contain as much music master material we can find. As of writing,
we don't have every single piece found yet. I hope to find
everything that we can find and make this project as whole as possible.
Bigger things are also in the works, but I cannot speak of them yet. When I can, it'll be posted here.
